The origin of food in the U.S. has a rich history, story and culture that is deeply connected to African Americans who have been tending American soil for centuries as slaves, sharecroppers, tenant farmers, farmland owners, land stewards, producers, skilled agricultural workers and entrepreneurs.

Black Farmer Stories is a 501c3 nonprofit that aims to preserve the history, legacy and agricultural knowledge of Black farmers across the U.S. by telling their stories and documenting the vital role they have held, and continue to hold, in the origin of our country’s food. Not just about agricultural heritage - this ongoing multimedia project shares the individual stories of Black producers, unpacking the realities of each of their experiences.

We hope through this digital platform, these important stories will inspire and educate, but also awaken the emotion of audiences on a national and global scale to take action and support Black farmers.
